Many people believe “a laser is a laser is a laser” and that is NOT accurate! It’s true that all LASIK systems use a laser beam to reshape corneas and help correct vision problems, but there are many differences in LASIK equipment.
Vision for Life continually invests in the most advanced LASIK technology to provide our patients with the best possible vision for life! During your complimentary LASIK consultation, Dr. Horn will design a LASIK treatment specific to your eye care needs.
Vision for Life uses the WaveLight EX500 LASIK laser and Contoura Vision (topography-guided LASIK) to customize the treatment to your specific eye care needs.
The WaveLight EX500 laser is the most state-of-the-art laser technology and Vision for Life was the first in Middle Tennessee to utilize this technology for their patients. The laser employs a flying small-spot laser beam that is 0.9 mm wide. This is important because only a very small, narrow beam permits precise, gradual corneal shaping. The beam used, called a Gaussian beam, also has a special shape. The Gaussian beam shape aids in producing a smooth surface on the cornea. The WaveLight EX500 laser operates at a rate of 500 pulses per second, which makes it the fastest excimer laser in the United States. This means a short procedure and less time in the operating room for you.
Dr. Horn has chosen WaveLight® EX500 LASIK Laser for his patients because the procedure:
You should expect the fastest and most accurate laser in the United States. The WaveLight EX500’s 1050Hz eye tracking system tracks eye movements at 2 milliseconds. This is much faster than the VISX 60Hz tracker, the system primarily used in Middle Tennessee. The WaveLight EX500 tracks your eye 10x faster than you can naturally move your eye. The WaveLight EX500 measures and compensates for eye movements. By locking on to the eye and staying locked on for the duration of the surgery, the laser can accurately predict where the eye will be at the exact moment the laser beam makes contact. The WaveLight EX500 laser incorporates an infrared pupil tracking system with a sampling frequency faster than the treatment frequency. Every 2 milliseconds, the eye’s location is measured and the internal mirrors of the WaveLight EX500 are automatically aligned. If at any time the eye moves too quickly to be measured or moves out of range, the laser will stop and wait for the eye to move back into position. The combination of direct surgeon observation and high-speed pupil tracking ensures that treatment will be on target every time, with each pulse.
Contoura is a topography guided LASIK treatment. This new technology has unique capabilities that provide Dr. Horn a greater degree of personalization. No other LASIK procedure available in the U.S. is this precise and individualized. The procedure is redefining the term “quality of vision” with studies showing that patients experienced better vision than they ever did with glasses or contact lenses. The data provided by Contoura maps the unique contours of your cornea that cannot be measured with traditional technology. The scanning procedure samples up to 22,000 elevation points on each eye to create your unique vision profile. This data provides an individual profile for each eye that Dr. Horn can use to perform personalized surgery. Contoura Vision, topography-guided LASIK, is the next evolution in personalized LASIK surgery. Dr. Horn at Vision for Life was the first to provide Contoura Vision in Middle Tennessee.
Dr. Horn has chosen Contoura Vision for his patients because of these benefits:
