LASIK FAQ

Dr. Horn and the staff at Vision for Life’s primary goal is the patient experience. We accomplish this first by educating you on the procedure, answering all your questions and taking the time to truly listen to your needs. During your initial consultation Dr. Horn will personally consult with you and design a treatment plan specific to your needs. In the meantime, we’ve compiled some FAQs below that could help answer any questions you may have.”

Dr. Horn has provided the answers to some of the most common questions amongst those considering LASIK surgery.

LASIK surgery may be considered an “elective” by your health insurance carrier, and therefore, may not be covered. Your flex spending plan may allow reimbursement for the procedure. We can help you determine coverage under your health insurance and flex spending account. For your out-of-pocket expenses, we accept several forms of payment and offer financing.

Your eyes are numbed for the LASIK surgery, so you experience no discomfort. You may feel a slight sensation of pressure as Dr. Horn performs the procedure. After the surgery, your eyes may feel irritated, and it may feel like you have something in your eye. This is normal, and the symptoms should only last 12 to 24 hours. You should plan to rest at home for the remainder of the day. You can return to work the day after your surgery.

With our advanced LASIK surgery technologies, Dr. Horn is able to treat each eye in 30 to 90 seconds. The procedure takes approximately 10-15 minutes for both eyes. Your vision is restored within a few hours.

LASIK surgery is clinically proven to improve vision. The results are equivalent to or better than the vision correction that is achieved with eyeglasses and/or contact lenses. The surgery can even improve astigmatism.

Surgery, in general, involves risks. You can reduce the risks by having your LASIK surgery at Vision For Life with an experienced and highly qualified LASIK surgeon and staff.

The laser that is used for LASIK surgery permanently changes the shape of your cornea to improve your vision.

We advise our patients that LASIK surgery only treats vision correction and cannot prevent other eye problems, such as cataracts, loss of close-up vision, and glaucoma. These conditions occur naturally due to aging, genetics, and other factors.

If you notice changes in your vision after you heal fully from your LASIK surgery, contact us to schedule a follow-up appointment. Dr. Horn will diagnose the problem and recommend the best treatments.

You can wear contact lenses, but you will not need them. LASIK surgery improves your vision far better than eyeglasses and contact lenses.

Dr. Horn has specialized in refractive eye surgery since 1994. He was an assistant clinical professor of ophthalmology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center for eight years and was a lead principal investigator for clinical trials for vision correction treatments.

Extensive screening is a critical aspect of exceptional results with LASIK surgery. By considering all information about your eyes, we are able to make a very specific vision correction recommendation. Dr. Horn takes a conservative approach, if there is doubt in his mind about a procedure being right for you, he will not treat you until something more appropriate for you is available. The need for optimal screening is one of the reasons why we provide free LASIK consultations to patients before they make any commitments to us.

Vision for Life offers several options for vision correction. If you are not a candidate for laser surgery, Dr. Horn may recommend other methods for improving your vision without eyeglasses and contact lenses. Dr. Horn is certified for every lens implant and multifocal IOL on the market. One of these may be right for you. The multifocal IOL is ideal for many people over 45 and those who need cataract surgery.

When Dr. Horn founded Vision for Life, he made the decision to make the practice a top refractive surgical center. Every aspect, from the climate-controlled surgical suite to the latest and best technology, is available to deliver the vision that you deserve. Because he specializes in refractive surgery, Dr. Horn performs more surgeries than most other ophthalmologists. His experience gives you an advantage before the surgery, when you are determining the best procedure for your needs, as well as during surgery when precision and skill matter the most. Because you depend on your vision for your entire lifetime, you deserve the excellence and attention to detail that you find at Vision for Life.
