This type of intraocular lens is designed to correct a single range of vision; near or distance. If you have this type of IOL implanted in your eye(s), you will likely need to also wear glasses. For example, it is common for the IOLs to be chosen to provide better distance vision than near vision. Then glasses are used for sharp near vision.
Monofocal lenses cannot be used for patients who have astigmatism. However, toric lenses can be designed specifically for patients who have astigmatism. Toric lenses are also designed to correct a single range of vision for distance. You will likely need reading glasses if you have this type of IOL implanted.
This type of intraocular lens design can provide correction for near, arms-length and distance vision. With these lenses a vast majority of Vision for Life’s patients will achieve excellent levels of clarity and a general improvement over a broad range of vision.
The AcrySof® IQ Vivity™ Lens allows you to see clearly at the crucial far and intermediate distances, while still providing functional near vision. Every patient has different needs in order to obtain their best vision and the Vivity lens allows for the highest quality vision imaginable.
Dr. Horn was one 12 surgeons chosen nationally in the FDA clinical trials for this innovative lens. Dr. Horn was the only Tennessee surgeon selected for the investigation and the first surgeon in Tennessee to implant the lens. The PanOptix lens is the only FDA approved tri-focal lens that allow our patients to enjoy all vision ranges.
We followed Dr. Horn and his first PanOptix patient after FDA approval. This 30-minute video often airs on ABC and will give you a behind the scenes perspective from both the doctor and patients’ point of view.
