Our Lens Replacement Technology

Have you been diagnosed with cataracts and are preparing to have lens replacement surgery? Perhaps you’re interested in the latest advancements in intraocular lenses (IOL). If so, then, you should have a clear view as to what your lens replacement surgery and intraocular lens options are, to ensure that you are completely satisfied with your results. Vision for Life offers several lens replacement options, including premium intraocular lenses, to ensure you live free from the symptoms of cataracts and regain the best possible vision for life!

Lens Replacement Options for Cataracts

At Vision for Life we offer several IOL options for your particular visual needs. Vision for Life offers a wide variety of premium IOL’s for patients that wish to have less dependence on glasses and bifocals. The ability of our patients to reclaim the vision of their youth is truly lifechanging!

Monofocal Lens

This type of intraocular lens is designed to correct a single range of vision; near or distance. If you have this type of IOL implanted in your eye(s), you will likely need to also wear glasses. For example, it is common for the IOLs to be chosen to provide better distance vision than near vision. Then glasses are used for sharp near vision.

Toric Astigmatism Correcting Lens

Monofocal lenses cannot be used for patients who have astigmatism. However, toric lenses can be designed specifically for patients who have astigmatism. Toric lenses are also designed to correct a single range of vision for distance. You will likely need reading glasses if you have this type of IOL implanted.

Multifocal IOLs

This type of intraocular lens design can provide correction for near, arms-length and distance vision. With these lenses a vast majority of Vision for Life’s patients will achieve excellent levels of clarity and a general improvement over a broad range of vision.

Vivity Lens

The AcrySof® IQ Vivity™ Lens allows you to see clearly at the crucial far and intermediate distances, while still providing functional near vision. Every patient has different needs in order to obtain their best vision and the Vivity lens allows for the highest quality vision imaginable.

Dr. Horn was the only Tennessee surgeon selected for the investigation and the first surgeon in Tennessee to implant the lens. Lens Replacement Technology FAQs

If you’re still doing research to determine if advanced lens replacement surgery is right for you, below are some common questions you may have.

Don’t let your vision be clouded any longer by cataracts. At Vision for Life, we offer several different lens replacement options to meet the needs of your particular eye condition and lifestyle. Even if you do not have cataracts, these types of lenses can be used for vision correction, and to help prevent the development of cataracts as you get older. Intraocular lenses are devices that replace the natural lens of your eye. This type of vision correction procedure is also known as refractive lens exchange.

During your consultation, together with Dr. Horn, you will develop a cataract treatment plan individualized for your unique needs and desires. Before the procedure, your eye will be numbed with a local anesthesia, and Dr. Horn may also administer a medication to help you remain relaxed and comfortable. The natural lens of your eye will be removed, and it is then carefully replaced with the intraocular lens, depending on your chosen treatment plan. A protective shield will be placed over your eye, we will provide you with detailed post-treatment care instructions and then you will be able to return home.

Standard lens implants that are used for lens replacement surgery are not specifically designed to improve your vision at various distances. Rather, the implants are used only to replace a rigid, clouded lens. With advanced lens implants, Dr. Horn can simultaneously correct your cataracts and any vision correction problems that you have, such as needing eyeglasses for distance viewing or reading glasses. The implants can also be used to correct astigmatism which is an irregular shape of the cornea that causes blurry vision.

Advanced lens implants treat your cataracts and correct any vision problems with one simple procedure. Having the implants will reduce your eyeglass prescription or reduce your dependence on glasses to see objects far and near. This gives you:

  • Greater range of clear vision
  • Improved ability to switch quickly from distance viewing to close-up tasks
  • Better vision capability in a variety of lighting

Your advanced lens implants are incorporated into your lens replacement surgery. Instead of using standard lens implants, Dr. Horn will place the advanced lens implant in your eye which will eliminate the symptoms of cataracts.

The primary considerations for advanced lens implants are:

  • Your desire to treat your cataracts and improve vision with one procedure.
  • Your desire to use eyeglasses and reading glasses less for daily activities.
